Norm's Unexpected CODA (10 years later)

Created by tomario 2 years ago

Daughter Mary tells a wonderful story to share with family and friends about a most unusual occurrence during a visit with older brother Kurt and his wife, Jane, a few weeks ago.

While cooking and having dinner Kurt puts his Pandora on in the background. One night, he picked the bossa nova station and we were serenaded by lovely Brazilian tunes.

At the end of dinner, he was telling the story of norm's ashes being spread, then Mern's ashes being sent to Hawaii and somehow being "returned to sender" back to California, then routed again to him finally. In the middle of the story, I touched Kurt's arm and said, "Sorry to interrupt, but is anyone else hearing this song?"

The room went silent to listen to the music while I nodded.

"That's one of Norm's favorite songs," I said. "'Begin the Beguine'! I included it as one of the songs on his memorial website, remember? Why is that song playing in the middle of this Brazilian mix?!"

We listened for a while then Kurt finished his story, telling of uniting Mern's and Norm's ashes into the sea. The song ended and the play list seamlessly returned to Bossa Nova. What the heck!

We laughed and marveled over this weird "visitation" from Norm. Even Kurt, otherwise pragmatic and level-headed, admitted that the
algorithms would not have picked a big band tune for a Brazilian mix, it might as well have been a rap tune for its incongruity!

I've had several cues from norm over the years, all music related. Had to be him!

It was him, dearest Mary! For I was there with you and felt his presence.
